About This Reference

What this independent West Coast sportfishing reference is, what it deliberately leaves out, and how the domain was used before it became a reference site.

This is a small, independent reference site about West Coast saltwater sportfishing. It has one job: to explain the fishery and the way it has been documented, clearly enough that someone new to it can follow a fishing report and understand what they are reading.

What It Is Not

It is worth being blunt about this, because the address has history. This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the AllCoast fishing community at allcoast.com, which is a separate and currently active property. It is not affiliated with any landing, sport boat, charter operator, tackle manufacturer, retailer or publication mentioned anywhere on these pages.

Nothing here is bookable, purchasable or joinable. There is no membership, no store, no classifieds section, no advertising and no contact form. If a page describes how something worked, it is describing it in the past tense as a matter of record, not offering it.

The Domain's Earlier Life

From January 1995 this address hosted one of the earliest large online resources for Pacific saltwater anglers. At its peak it described itself as receiving on the order of thirteen thousand visits a day, which for a regional enthusiast site in that era was substantial. It carried daily fishing reports, dock totals from the landings, a network of regional and topical message boards, a user photo gallery, a directory of tackle and marine businesses, and a paid membership club that funded the whole thing on low annual fees.

Around 2008 the site rebranded and its content model changed — signed field-editor reports replaced much of the community reporting, and video and blogs were added. The community subsequently moved to a different domain, where it remains. This address later passed through an unrelated period in which it published content on entirely different subjects; none of that material is retained, restored or redirected.

What Is Kept, and Why

What is worth keeping from that history is not the organisation but the subject. The reporting habits that grew up on this coast — real-time radio relays, daily dock counts, obsessive attention to sea surface temperature — are genuinely distinctive, and they are the reason a West Coast angler talks about fishing differently from an angler anywhere else in the country. Those habits are documented here.

Where the original site named people, boats, landings or brands, this reference does not. Those are real businesses and real individuals, many of them still operating, and describing their current capabilities or availability from a decades-old snapshot would be inventing facts about them. Geography, species, seasons and technique are not owned by anyone, and those are what these pages cover.

Sourcing

Descriptive material about the fishery is written from the public record and from the general body of knowledge about this coast. Anything regulatory, biological or oceanographic points at the responsible public authority rather than restating it here, because those facts change and this site does not track them in real time. The Pacific Fishery Management Council is the body that develops federal management measures for the West Coast, and its documents are the primary source for how and why the rules move.

Corrections of fact are welcome in principle. Because this reference deliberately operates no contact surface, it has no mechanism to receive them, which is a real limitation and is stated here rather than hidden. Readers who need an answer about a specific rule, boat or business should go to the relevant agency or business directly.
